I'm geeky-looking, so what profile picture do I use?
66Please take a few seconds and help with my dilemma
Dear all,
Many apologies for the ego-centric request but I do believe I have a problem. I have a varied presence on the web through writing two websites, and also using several sites similar to the excellent HubPages. I think a profile picture is expected but what profile picture should a spectacle wearer use? I'm concerned that I'm sending out the wrong message. I don't have the youth, sexiness and intelligence of someone such as SunSeven, but I do need to send out the right message to the widest possible audience.
It's quite simple. I would be most grateful if you would opt for one of the following (just leave your chosen number). Even better, please leave a short comment to explain your choice.
Do I look:
- geeky
- intelligent
- too big for my boots
- pain-in-the-ass
- damn cyclist
- too fit
- too skinny
- full of my own importance
- cute (someone did actually say this - I kid you not)
- something not already mentioned
Opt for photo 1, 2, 3 or "none of the above - get naked"
I realise that this article is so short that it will hurt my HubPages score, but I really do want to know. The comments I have received to date are really useful, but please keep them coming!
Many thanks - please accept this quiz in the spirit in which it is given! I will publish all comments, positive or constructive. PJD

Ur Ugly!
I'd go with photo #2, a good writer is a good listener is what it says to me.
My dear Peter... what does it matter? Use the picture in number two but please listen what I have to say.
Your an awesome guy that is friendly and kind hearted and people will never be able to tell that from your pictures. Your words, your passion for Italy and the beautiful pictures you take, show much more to your audience than a picture.
Just keep up the good job you are already doing on HB!
Professor Gallagher? He is probably some relation!!!! You did say we liked to see if we are related some how! Anyways, lets, see a picture of you in your new glasses!
I like 2 and 3. #1 I would throw out the window! I would only use 3 in places where they are more sport or fun oriented though...
I like the cyclist idea, but a different picture. It shows that you are fit and active. You just need a picture that only has you in it and that shows your face a bit more - a closer shot.
I notice this hub was published awhile back, but I have to say the picture you have up now shows are intelligent and bright. Also, I like the one where you are on the bike.
Hilarious hub! I choose #3--damned cyclist. But I see you went with #2, which is good too. I can empathize--it's so hard to choose a photo that really looks like me and yet doesn't make me cringe. I opted to have the dog as a distraction.
Peter, not geeky looking at all.....maybe I'm comparing you to the professors I work with. Then again, I think all Irishmen are handsome.
Of the three, I would choose #2. I love the look on your face. It looks as if you are thinking..."Just keep smiling and nodding your head and maybe this guy will go away."
It's hard to know which side of yourself to put out there. The difference between what you think you are projecting and what others actually see can be amazing.
pjdscott, I have to say this is one of the more *interesting* hubs I've seen...
Here are my thoughts, since you asked for them:
In picture one it looks like you weren't ready for the photo. Or maybe it's just because the photo was cropped and made bigger...so I wouldn't suggest that.
In picture two you've got a smile and a bright face. Good photo.
I would say picture three is also a good one. BUT, it depends on what sort of message you'll be sharing. If you're talking about a serious topic and want be seen as an authority, I wouldn't choose #3 (UNLESS your topic is cycling, outdoors, or something similar).
Although I can't relate to the "spectacle-wearing, nerdy" persona, I can testify to being taken less-seriously due to images. People sometimes write me off due to being young. I've had less comments these days, but you'd think it'd stop at age 26, married and expecting a child.
I guess I need a few gray hairs for people to take me more seriously...
Hey Nana, what's wrong with a know it all? LOL
As for the photo, I concur with the majority here - I think you look confident in the#2 and the photo itself is more eye-catching. IMO its not always good-looking photos that get noticed, but interesting ones as well. As you can see for now I am "faceless". And, since you are a self-proclaimed geeky-looking dude, perhaps this can be advantageous as people will take you more seriously.
Interesting?
I vote for the current one as of date... number two. I like it that you appear as the student in this photo and not some know-it-all.
IMHO... this causes you to be much more approachable and endearing?
But, are you? LOL

Welcome to HP:-)
I like the second, where you're in conversation.
You look confident, pleased with yourself and the conversation at hand, and all together happy.
But that's just one geek-loving girl's opinion.
I recommend Photo No. 2, with the glasses. Would you rather look like Errol Flynn or Clark Gable? Hey, I thought very highly of Jimmy Durante, Jimmy Gleason, Edward G. Robinson and Barry Fitzgerald, and they were no Adonis'. Just say: That's me: Take it or leave it!
From the four given options I´ll have to choose the third one (the damn cyclist LOL). But I supose you can use any of the first three (I warn you don´t choose the fouth one - you´ll be banned from HP LOOL).

I recently found MashFace. Mashface is the creation of a 3D website development company located in Montreal's known as Xtranormal, Inc. They are the same company that lets you make short movies with 3D animation characters that say whatever you type. Mashface is in beta mode still.
MashFace lets users upload photos and do the cool tricks that have been seen on Conan O'Brien and Jay Leno. Take a picture of your friends and record your mouth over theirs using your web cam. You can make them say anything you want, even have your friends spend a minute announcing to the world how absolutley awesome you are.
My Daughter singing Bohemian Rhapsody
Ack Bad Lighting
As you can see it looks like my daughter has a 5 O'Clock shadow. My lighting was bad in the room and I was too lazy to fix. If you experience the same thing, get a desk light and face it towards you. This should lighten your face up more so that you can match the photo better.
How To Make A MashFace
Go To MashFace.com
Upload a picture from your computer or use one of theirs
Record with your webcam your mouth speaking, eyes moving, etc.
Start Mashing
Mashface has tools so that you can fit your webcam actions on to the picture to make it the right size.
Save and publish.
Share on YouTube, FaceBook, Myspace, etc.
Mashface gives you the tools to automatically post to many of the popular social networking and social bookmarking sites.
Rinse and Repeat =P

MashFace is Easy
MashFace takes about 10 minutes to get the hang of. I had no clue what to make my pictures say so instead I had fun going to LastFM and playing music in one screen while recording my mouth movements in the other. Once my minute was up (at this time only a minute can be recorded at a time), I mashed it together with my picture, edited it so that it fit the face right, and pushed publish. Now all my FaceBook friends and anyone I want can see my MashFace video's.
In your MashFace account your can set up your YouTube information so that after publishing, it takes just one button to upload to your YouTube account.
